SMUG ABOUT SUCCESS

I never, ever got that letter I am supposed to have received, with excuses about 'human error', during the time I vigorously chased up responses to my queries. However, I am very pleased to say, (even smug about it ) that the Information Commissioner's Office has upheld my complaint. That large incompetent organisation, which, shall remain nameless, (organisation! they don't know what organisation is) has been found wanting in the way it handled and used, or more correctly, misused, my personal data.

There is without a doubt a good feeling that goes with a satisfactory resolution.

  Hi Skip - at times like this one, I agree, self-staisfaction really does contribute to one's well-being. It made the effort and the wait, worthwhile.

A good outcome - but one wonders if the offending party will change any procedures. They clearly don't understand the issue from the reply you blogged about earlier. Just as the civil service and government apparently do not.

  The reply? Do you mean the 'plain language' issue? That was a totally separate matter, though, I admit it is worthy of large organisations; but, it did not emanate from the organisation that misused my data.
  
  Apart from continuing incompetence from the customer service office - separated off from the main organisation for transparency's sake I suppose, though they are totally opaque, even amongst themselves - I am not sure that the people who communicated with me are able to be such pendants. I believe pedants have to have some level of intellect, even if they can be a pain in the butt at times.
  Ruefully, I have to include myself in that category from time to time. However, I don't mind having a bit of intellect.
  
  Like you, I wonder if there will be any note taken and changes made from the findings of my successful complaint.

    I meant that the apology you mentioned was not a reply to your original complaint, and the person who wrote it didn't understand the issue, or didn't care enough to bother with it, or was just plain stupid.

      I see - yup, I never did get a letter such as described, which is why I didn't connect your comment up. Interestingly, this perfectly illustrates the total disconnection in the communication.
      
      I think the intimation in the Information Commissioner's letter that the organisation had attempted to 'aplogize' with excusing 'human error' is pathetic. If I had received the letter, I doubt that my reactions would have been any different.

  I think so too RDW and now I can send the result to the the Ombudsman who, when that particular case of mine reaches the top of the 'work in waiting' pile, I hope will agree, my case is reinforced.

  Sending the result off to the Ombudsman now, whose office, have had two case files from me about the same organisation, waiting to be adjudicated, for 6 months. I am told that I should be patient for about another two months.
  
  Who do you complain to about the efficacy of the Ombudsman administration?
  
  I think I'll give that one a miss, as I gather the very slow conveyor belt is known about.
