And for the next impossibility...
Reported on BBC TV News:
"This is a quiet, rural area but people do live here..."
That was exactly one of my reactions
You definitely know what kind of lifestyle the reporter is used to.
Yeah you do, and it's not one I share!

We used to speak about ' poetic licence ' which has since become a General Licence, to be abused far and wide.
Language and the ability to communicate effectively was important and still should be. Too much 'lazy speak' and incorrect grammar has crept into public reporting, imappropriate syntax, misplaced clauses, you name it, it is done in the name of communication. No wonder our kids don't know what a simple and correct sentence should be, and lose, or never learn the ability to fluently express language accordingly. And where did some the reporters of today learn to communicate at the abysmal level we receive?
I am not a purist, heaven forfend the thought, but I do get irritated with such stupidities as this reported descriptor. I am interested in the evolution of the English language but not to the exclusion of sense being maintained.
Don't enlighten the ignorant B--t--ds. They'll be moving in and raising the house prices so that us normal folk can't live here anymore.

That might be so, but according to the manner in which the report was broadcast, it was suggested it wasn't normal for anyone to live in a quiet remote, rural place, so I don't think much would change in a hurry, apart, perhaps, from encouraging the few diehards who dare to live in quiet places, to move out somewhere more 'ordinary' or 'normal'. Those strange people just might have the effect of driving house prices down, because they have frightened the life out of their suburban neighbours. ![]()
If you don't mind, I'll still keep my eyes on the horizon and my shotgun at the ready...

Hope you've got a license for the shotgun - need that even in remote, rural areas. Townies by and large, tend to 'forget' about such niceties.
Yep, had the firearms officer around only last week to check everything out. I'm set up again for the next five years now.

That means your property won't go on the market for a while then.
Can't afford to move. Property values around here continue to rocket as more rich folk move into the area.
Not actually in a rush to go anywhere anyway. Just as well really...
